Free Falling

I’ve been holding on tightly for dear
death,
holding on tightly for fear of what’s next,
holding on tight as I can,
but here

before I had time to cry,
“Hold on,”
change my mind, or stall
‘til the end of time,

before I could offer myself a comfy,
death permitting
countdown.
